Audience engagement events to add some fun and fabulousness to your theatre going experience.
Women’s Night @ Diversionary
Hosted by Pink Egg Media | Sponsored by Red House Pizza & Boutique
Thursday, May 30th @ 7:00pm
Here at Diversionary Theatre we love the ladies. We love them so much, in fact, that we’ve decided to team up with the fine females at Pink Egg Media to host an event just for them during each show in our season. Women’s Night @ Diversionary, is a chance for theatregoers to gather before the show begins, enjoy complimentary drinks and nosh, and take in a show at one of the most fun and fierce theatrical venues in San Diego. Join the women of Pink Egg Media as they socialize in a relaxed environment, meet great folks, and enjoy a fabulous night out with friends both new and old! Everyone is invited to join in with the purchase of a ticket to that evening’s performance.
Friends + Family @ Diversionary
Hosted by PFLAG
Friday, April 12th @ 7:00pm
We’re all about equality at Diversionary Theatre. If other theatres get to host special evenings for their gay and lesbian patrons, then we want the chance to say thanks to our straight supporters. Friends + Family @ Diversionary celebrates our allies who believe in the importance of Diversionary’s mission to weave the stories of the LGBT community into the larger cultural fabric we all share. Bring a friend or two, enjoy complimentary pre-show food and drink, and mingle with other like-minded members of the community. All are welcome with the purchase of a ticket for that evening’s performance.
Brews Backstage @ Diversionary
Friday, April 19th @ 7:00pm
A night out at the theatre doesn’t have to be so highfalutin! Let Brews Backstage @ Diversionary is a chance to kick it with us before the show. Complimentary beer will be on tap in Fritz’s Lounge, alongside some great munchies, and chill music will be playing. Unwind with friends before heading upstairs to see some of the freshest and boldest theatre in San Diego. Your ticket for that evening’s performance is your pass to the party and good times are guaranteed.
InDepth @ Diversionary
April 21, after the show
Please join us free of charge after the 2pm matinee of The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler on Sunday, April 21st for an InDepth @ Diversionary panel discussion, A Foothold for Better Times: The Purpose and Persistence of Stereotypes in Arts and Culture. Our guests, Delicia Turner Sonnenberg (a founder and Artistic Director of MOXIE Theatre), Sophia Arredondo (Women’s Resource Coordinator at the San Diego LGBT Center), James Vásquez (director of [title of show], Harmony, Kansas, Pippin, Birds of a Feather, and the upcoming Justin Love at Diversionary), and Yolanda Franklin (Mammy in The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler at Diversionary), will be discussing the role that stereotypes play in the world we live in today. How do the portrayals that we see of our communities on the page, stage, and screen affect us and how we see each other and ourselves? Contact Anthony Methvin (amethvin@diversionary.org ) for more information.
The Community and Audience Engagement programs @Diversionary take our stories beyond the stage to attract new audiences, tell stories to people outside our – and their - comfort zones, and partner with other organizations who are trying to do the same things. Want to know more about the themes of the show, talk about how they relate to the world we live in, or meet the writers, creative team and cast for a glimpse behind the curtain on producing theatre? Several times during the run of each show, we offer a seminar, presentation or panel discussion in the lobby prior to curtain time. Your ticket gets you in. Your keen wit and perspective make the topic engaging!
