Scrooge in Rouge is a quick-change, cross-dressing version of the Dickens holiday classic, set in a Victorian music hall where three actors play 23 roles.  The popular show returns to Diversionary for a limited engagement. A holiday show, full of entertainment, rousing popular songs, comedy and specialty acts.

Creative Team

 

Ricky Graham (Books and Lyrics) has written his other holiday musical, The Pecan Cracker, for Southern Rep Theatre in New Orleans.  He’s written, directed and performed in Crescent City for WWNO, an affiliate of National Public Radio.  With Jefferson Turner, and Sean Patterson, Ricky has just written a new musical, The Money Box, based on Moliere’s The Miser, premiering this spring as a presentation of the Department of Theatre Arts at Loyola University, New Orleans. 

Jacque WilkeJacque Wilke. Local theater credits include: Lend me a Tenor, Mistletoe, Music, and Mayhem Don’t Dress for Dinner at North Coast Repertory Theater, Next Fall, Fair Use, The New Century, Anita Bryant Died for your Sins at Diversionary Theater, Or, (MOXIE), The Seven Year Itch, The Heidi Chronicles at New Village Arts, Side Man at Bang Productions, The Break-up Breakdown (Circle Circle Dot Dot), He Said, She Said at Laterthanever. She performs stand-up comedy locally,as well as in Los Angeles. She is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts where she was the recipient of the Academy’s Charles Jelinger Award for Best Actress.

Stewart Calhoun

Stewart Calhoun. After most recently appearing on the Diversionary stage as Luke in Next Fall, Stewart is so excited to be playing with Tony Houck and Jacque Wilke yet again! In Chicago, Stewart worked with Chicago Shakes, Bailiwick Rep and Nothing without a Company before heading to LA to star in the west coast premiere of Carlos Murillo's dark play or stories for boys at the Theatre @ Boston Court in Pasadena (LA Weekly nomination- leading male performance), which he helped develop with Carlos while training at The Theatre School at DePaul University. Other LA theatre credits include: Thrill Me, The Leopold and Loeb Story (Ovation Nomination,Garland Award- best ensemble), How Cissy Grew (LA Weekly Nomination- best supporting actor), Above The Line, South Coast Rep's A Wrinkle in Time and Ben and the Magic Paintbrush. Film and TV: The Eves, Paradox Alice, Family Valuables(Web Series), In2ition(Web Series). Commercials: Hotmail, USA, Chevy, Huntington Bank. Rick Schaffer. “Scrooge in Rouge” marks Rick’s fourth production for Diversionary. A retired NYC actor/director, Rick’s other San Diego theater credits include dozens of musical and dramatic productions for such theater companies as Coronado Playhouse, Scripps Ranch Theatre, Compass Theatre, OnStage Playhouse, Infinity Dance Arts, Lamplighters, PowPAC, Pickwick Players, and the Honors Theatre Project of the SDUSD Department of Visual and Performing Arts.
