Diversionary Wins Three 2017 Craig Noel Awards
For the second year in a row, Diversionary Theatre productions garnered Craig Noel Awards. The awards ceremony is put on each year by the San Diego Critic’s Circle – this year the ceremony took place at the Jacob’s Center for Neighborhood Innovation and hosted dozens of local theatre organizations.
From Diversionary Theatre’s 2.5 Minute Ride, by Lisa Kron, Shana Wride was selected for an “Outstanding Solo Performance” award.
Annie Hinton’s performance in Well, also by Kron, won “Outstanding Featured Performance in a Play, Female.”
Finally, Diversionary’s much-acclaimed production of Ballast by Georgette Kelly took home the award for “Outstanding New Play.”
Said Diversionary’s Executive Artistic Director (and Director of Ballast) Matt M. Morrow;
“Georgette Kelly’s beautiful, insightful, big-hearted play Ballast took home the “Best New Play” award at the 2017 San Diego Critics Circle Awards. After developing this play for six years with this genius playwright, I’m beyond proud. I am equally proud that Shana Wride was honored for her solo turn in 2.5 Minute Ride and Annie Hinton for her portrayal of Anne Kron in WELL. Well deserved fierce ladies of the theatre!”
