Lip Sync Battle: Preliminary Round One
Welcome to Diversionary’s first inaugural Lip Sync Battle competition! Aligning perfectly with the plot of To My Girls, we are kicking off this fun show by holding a lip sync competition right here on the ruby red stage, hosted by the iconic Sam Paguita! The competition will contain three rounds:
Preliminary Round One held on Sat, Nov 15th @ 9PM
Semi-Finals Round Two held on Sat, Nov 29th @ 9PM
Finale Round Three and Showcase held on Sat, Dec 6 @ 9PM
Before the finale contestants take the stage on Dec 6th, we will hold space for a lip sync showcase for up to 5 performers that would like to perform to their song, but without the pressure of the competition! If you wish to participate in the showcase, please RSVP.
Each battle will be judged in real-time by the audience, and the finale will have special guest judges from the cast of To My Girls!
There are 8 total spots available to compete, so RSVP soon! If you wish to participate, please plan on being available for all three rounds in case you make it through to the finale! All entrants must choose their own song and have it prepared before their battle time. All songs must be sent to the Operations Manager, Amor Carchano, by noon, day of battle. Song files can be Spotify links, or .wav, .mp3 file formats emailed to amor@diversionary.org.
So! What’s the prize? Each contestant is asked to bring a $20 cash to participate, so the grand prize will be the entire cash pool, PLUS two free tickets to our next Season 40 production!
Performance Guidelines
Costumes encouraged. Prop mics may be requested for the performance. Real mics will not be provided, as you will not be singing. Performances are not restricted, but please keep your underwear on. Those that violate this rule will be disqualified. Have fun and get the audience as excited as you are!
FAQ’s
Q: I have a great voice and want to sing the song myself. Can I sing the song instead?
A: While we know you have a beautiful voice, this is a Lip Sync based contest, not a singing contest. Come join us for Karaoke on Fridays so we can hear those chops!
Q: Can I dress up/use props in my performance?
A: Yes, please do! Within reason though, use common sense and just choose wisely.
Q: Can I throw some cool stuff out into the audience?
A: No. If you do, you will be disqualified. We don’t need any injuries from audience projectiles, please!
Q: Can the DJ give us specific lighting and cues once our performance has started? Can we have them switch to different tracks along the way as well?
A: The DJ will only play the one provided song at a time. Specific lighting will not be given.
Q: There was only a limited amount of people who could participate and I was not signed up in time. What can I do?
A: We are sorry, but there is a limit to the amount of contestants we can have in the Battle as we have a limited amount of time and physical space. If you didn’t get in, please stay on the lookout for if we do this event again!
