You have to give them hope!
Introducing Teen-Versionary’s inaugural ensemble and cast of queerSpawn!
The past year-and-a-half has challenged our community and Diversionary’s pioneering mission anew. Thank goodness Pride has arrived to reignite our spirits and courage! This Pride Season, we’re focusing on our future by launching Teen-Versionary, an arts education program giving hope and voice to LGBTQ+A youth.
I hope you will donate today to support this new educational program that will have a significant impact on San Diego youth, and the future we face.
Teen-Versionary brings together youth from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds to rehearse and produce a new LGBT-themed show. Our inaugural ensemble is proud to present queerSpawn, a radically engaging new play by Mallery Avidon. The story is about the inner life of a teenager who has two mothers, focusing on bullying and the persistent stigma around the LGBTQ identity.
This inspiring new program creates a safe space where new ideas and friendships thrive, and young people can discover their artistic voice, while instilling a sense of pride, self-respect and dignity in their identity. Most of all, they learn how to organize, and work within a diverse group to achieve a common goal of producing a show with an important social message.
queerSpawn is now in rehearsal and performs Friday July 20th at 3pm and 7pm. To reserve your seats, click here.
Teen-Versionary is an investment in our community’s future. Your support will impact the lives of LGBTQ+A teens we serve through this dynamic, emotionally and intellectually enriching program. 49 years after Stonewall, 33 years after the founding of our theatre, and three years after Marriage Equality became the law of the land, Diversionary continues to be a beacon of hope. We couldn’t do it without you!
