Everyone came for one reason. The weekend had other plans.
When Gen, a lesbian in a monogamous relationship, unexpectedly becomes pregnant, she gathers her college friends at a lake house for a secret abortion party. What begins as a weekend of support quickly raises bigger questions about attraction, sexuality, identity, friendship, relationships, and community. The abortion is the catalyst, but the people and their relationships are at the heart of the story.
A queer comedy with plenty to unpack
For playwright Catya McMullen, Arrowhead is a “love letter to queerness.” The play explores desire, identity, community, and feminism, and what happens when they do not always fit neatly together.
At the center of it all is comedy. McMullen has described finding “the profound in the stupid and the stupid in the profound.” Humor gives the characters room to explore difficult questions about relationships, identity, and the things people do not always say out loud.
“Hilarious and heartbreaking.”
Larchmont Buzz
Larchmont Buzz also described the play as a “fun, deeply engaging, and eye-opening quest for truth.” Colorado Boulevard called it “wonderfully relatable,” regardless of an audience member’s age, sexuality, viewpoints, or life experience.
